There have been a number of studies that have shown that a diet that includes oily fish can have a positive effect on the nerve cells in the brain. These findings compelled researchers from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to review trials that compared cognitive function of those taking omega 3 supplements to those taking a placebo.

Over 3,000 people were followed for over three years and there seemed to be no real?improvement in?? cognitive function for those taking omega 3.? The researchers did note that three years is a relatively short amount of?time to conduct a study,?so? the results of the study may be skewed. ?They?did find that the benefit of improving heart health is a good reason to include oily fish in a senior?s diet.
