Specialty Care Services, a locally owned, operated, and licensed home care agency serving residents of Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia since 2000, has recently been selected by the Maryland Department of Human Services to provide Maryland home care services to qualified individuals in Baltimore City, Frederick, Prince George’s, Washington, and Baltimore Counties. The awarded contract runs for five years, January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2026, and brings the expertise and experience of Specialty Care Services to more residents who qualify for in-home care through the Maryland Department of Human Services.
Under the contract, in-home aide services are available to qualified Maryland residents ages 18 years and older who have functional disabilities and who need assistance with tasks such as personal care, chores, meal preparation, and other day-to-day activities in order to continue to live at home safely and independently. Other Maryland residents who qualify for in-home aide services include vulnerable adults with no willing or capable caregiver available, those at risk for institutional placement, and those at risk of abuse or neglect.
“Receiving this contract lays the foundation for Specialty Care Services to expand home care services and work in partnership with the Maryland Department of Human Services to meet the growing demand for in-home aide services,” says Al Simons, founder and managing member of Specialty Care Services. Al adds, “With additional state and federal government bids submitted, we anxiously await approval that will expand our reach to more community members and provide needed in-home care services to benefit individuals and families throughout the region.”
To be awarded this Maryland home care contract, Specialty Care Services participated in a lengthy and highly-competitive bid process and showed evidence of consistent and high standards of care and fiscal responsibility. Businesses awarded a contract to provide in-home aide services by the Maryland Department of Human Services must be licensed as a residential services agency, have experience working with state and federal governments, and provide proof that they are financially stable. Additionally, to ensure the highest levels of care, the businesses must show proof that they have adequate staff who are qualified, trained to provide in home aide services, and an established clinical team that can offer quality nursing care supervised by an experienced director of nursing. It is an honor to have been awarded this contract.
Residents who live in Baltimore City or one of the four counties serviced by this contract can learn more about accessing in-home aide services by contacting their local county department of social services. To determine eligibility, a home visit and interview are conducted to gather information about specific care needs. Funding for the program determines the number of individuals who can receive care, and care needs are ranked in order to ensure those with the greatest needs are served first.
For more than 20 years, Specialty Care Services has worked with local families to find creative care solutions that help older adults and adults with disabilities remain at home in safe, supportive environments, while fostering independence and dignity. Offering unparalleled customer service, expertly trained care professionals, and an unwavering commitment to consistent, high-quality care, Specialty Care Services is proud to have the opportunity to bring its expertise to more members of our communities.
